Premier Division: Chirk gained three valuable
points against Brickfield Rangers at Holyhead Road. Chirk started in the
best possible fashion when they were awarded a very dubious penalty within
the first five minutes of play. Up stepped forward Anthony Jones who duly
dispatched the spot kick with relish to give his side an early lead. Chirk
scored their second courtesy of Ben Davies with the youngster bagging his
first goal of the season. Second half Brickfield came out in determined
mood dominating play for the opening 15 minutes, with both Pinard and Hoosan
combining well to cause the home side problems. The visitors were soon
rewarded when a mistake by Chirk's Darren Jones let in Wheatley, whose pass
to Pryde was whipped into
the
Chirk penalty area for the unmarked Griffiths to score from five yards out.
Chirk needed all the experience of veteran defender Mike Hughes to steady
the ship alongside fellow defenders Jones and Nash as Brickfield continued
to press. Chirk had Davies to thank for their third goal on 75
minutes, with him coolly placing the ball beyond the reach of keeper Platt
from 20 yards out after a goalmouth scramble. This sucker punch took the
sting out of the visitors play with Chirk gaining in confidence as the game
went on. Forward Anthony Jones saw an effort beat Platt only to hit the
post while at the other end Brickfields Griffiths should of added his second
goal of the afternoon only to shoot wide from close range. Chirk sub Mike
Nash missed a glorious chance to increase his sides lead in the dying
seconds with him shooting wide from 10 yards out before the ref blew for
full time. Manager Dudley Hall will be pleased with his sides performance
which is their second home win on the trot.
Next
week Chirk travel to Rhos Aelwyd in the first round of the Premier Division

Brymbo Reserves 4-2 Chirk Reserves
A understrenght Chirk reserve side bowed out of the opening round of the Cup against a Brymbo side that are unbeaten to date. Chirk give a good account of themselves despite only managing to field ten players. Chirk's scorer was two goal man Chris Hughes.
