Chirk AAA 0-1 Penycae
Penycae recorded their fourth straight league win by clinching a narrow 1-0 away
win over Chirk. The visitors had the first chance of the game on three minutes,
after Nicky Evans met a Liam Jones cross from the right from 10 yards out only
to shoot wide. Chirk soon responded with forward Gareth Roberts picking out
Windsor whose weak shot was easily saved by keeper Jason Wynn. Chirk had Windsor
to thank at the other end of the field on 15 minutes after Matthew Powell's free
kick landed perfectly for Penycae dangerman Ian Andrews, with Windsor getting in
a late block to
deny the striker. Chirk's Roberts was unlucky not to score on 20
minutes with him dribbling past two defenders only to see his shot hit the post
from six yards out. Chirk's Bradshaw has a dipping 25 yard effort fly just over
the bar on 27 minutes, with Penycae keeper Wynn making an acrobatic save to deny
Roberts five minutes later. Penycae finished the stronger of the two sides
leading up to half time with them missing a number of chances. Chirk keeper
Valentine was called into action on 34 minutes, diving low to his right to keep
out a Ian Bowyer Jones drive after good play from Andrews. Penycae defender
Jones should of done better a minute later with him weakly shooting straight at
Valentine after being put through by Williams. Visiting midfielder Pemberton
then headed over from six yards out off a Andrews cross. Valentine was again
called into action on the stroke of half time when a defence splitting ball from
Williams found Evans whose effort was well saved by the Chirk keeper.
The second half got underway with Penycae scoring the only goal of the game on
51 minutes. Liam Jones was provider with his cross finding the lurking Andrews
who made no mistake from eight yards out, his low shot into the corner of the
net beating the outstretched Valentine. Chirk's Bradshaw fired wide with only
Wynn to beat on 60 minutes, while Penycae's Davies hit the post after a
goalmouth scramble with Valentine beaten. Ian Bowyer Jones was denied a goal on
80 minutes by Valentine, with the Chirk shot stopper saving off Andrews again
seconds later. Chirk's Nash desperately tried to get a goal back for his side
with his forward runs, but the Penycae rearguard stood firm to take all three
points.
