Chirk Reserves 2-4 Bala Reserves
Chirk reserves but up a spirited display against in-form side Bala reserves. Division One leaders Bala, who have lost only one match all season kicked off the match as competition favourites. It was the home side who produced the goods though with Chirk taking the game to Bala. Forward Adam Bradshaw unleashed a 25 yard shot which flew past Bala keeper Evans to give Chirk a third minute lead. This was doubled two minutes later after a Jonathon Owen cross was missed by several Bala defenders before falling to the lurking Paul Roberts who smashed the ball past Evans into the goal. Bala were on the back foot for the opening 15 minutes but soon started the play the kind of football that has been their trademark all season. Forward Gethin Edwards was guilty of missing a string of chances from close range with the busy Ellis Edwards tormenting the Chirk rear guard with his pace and trickery. With half time loomimg Chirk seemed to have weathered the storm thanks to a number of fine saves from keeper Adam Griffiths. Bala continued to press forcing two corners in the 41st and 44th minutes and scoring off both. Gwyn Rowlands forced home the first from 5 yards after a goalmouth scramble while brother Ricky headed in the second minutes later. Second half Chirk tried desperately to find another goal from somewhere but were soon swamped by the visitors play. Bala forward Ricky Rowlands proved to be a constant thorn in Chirk's side with his movement and pace. Midfielder Dewi Edwards scored Bala's third and fourth goals to wrap the game up for the visitors to send them through to the next round.
Next week Chirk reserves are
back in league action when they travel to Division Three leaders Brymbo
reserves. This will prove to be a stern test for Chirk against a side
who are unbeaten all season. 2.00pm KO.
