Chirk AAA and Cefn United fought each other to a stand still in this 'derby encounter'. The match saw referee Rob Duncan dish out seven yellow cards, three to Chirk and four to Cefn. Chirk dominated the opening 15 minutes with keeper Spencer Samuels saving twice off Cefn old boy Gareth Roberts as he tried to give Chirk the lead. Cefn's Ian Oliver Davies tested Valentine in the Chirk goal with a stinging shot on 20 minutes with midfielder Lee Jones also going close. Cefn finished the first half the stronger of the two sides with their attacks breaking down in the final third. In the second half Chirk's Anthony Jones caused the visitors a lot of problems with his pace on the right, with him linking up well with Jon Paul Wood in the middle. Cefn forced eight second half corners to Chirk's none, but the Chirk defence cleared their lines on each occasion. This was a game of two defences, with Chirk defenders Ryland Roberts and Darren Jones inspirational at the back for their side along with Cefn's Mark Willis. Cefn had Chirk on the back foot at times in the final third of the game, with Chirk hitting Cefn on the break in search of the winner. A draw was two points lost for each side but on reflection was a fair result with both sets of players giving their all. This was Chirk's first 0-0 draw since April 2002!
