Borras Park
Albion 0-1 Chirk AAA
Chirk AAA secured a narrow 1-0 win away to
Wrexham side Borras Park Albion. The first half saw little goal mouth
threats by either side on a rain swept afternoon. Borras had the best
chance of the first half when striker Hill turned his marker from 15 yards
out to unleash a shot which flew over the Chirk bar. Chirk defender Ryland
Roberts made a crucial last ditch tackle to thwart Albion's Mark Roberts
when the forward only had keeper Valentine to beat. Chirk players Roberts
and Bagnall both shot wide early on with the play mainly confined to the
middle of the park. Chirk manager Alan Reeves didn't mince his words during
the interval as he urged his side on. Chirk slowly started to gain the
ascendancy second half with striker Roberts going close on 60 minutes and
the busy Colin Bagnall heading wide from six yards out minutes later.
Albion's Mark Roberts should of done better after Kavanagh threaded the ball
through to him but keeper Valentine was quick off his line to smother his
shot to concede a corner. Chirk changed things round on 70 minutes with
youngster Joe Roberts replacing Bradshaw. Albion's keeper Jones was lucky
to stay on the pitch after he attacked Chirk forward Roberts after a
innocent looking header in the penalty area. Players had to separate the two
with the Chirk players incensed with the keeper actions. The pairing of the
two Roberts up-front soon paid dividends with them both spinning away from
their markers with Joe Roberts latching onto a Jon Paul Wood ball to fire
low beating keeper Jones from ten yards out to give his side the lead.
Albion defender Rob Ransome continually shouted out instructions to his
fellow players in an effort to get something out of the game and was his
sides best player. Chirk played safe for the remainder of the game with
Albion's Tizzard firing over the bar three minutes from time. This is
Chirk's best start to the campaign for four seasons, with them remaining
unbeaten to date. It has also been quite a weekend for youngster Joe
Roberts who netted twice for the reserves last night as well as grabbing the
winner today.
