Rhos Aelwyd 6-0 Chirk AAA
Chirk crashed to a 6-0 defeat at the hands of last seasons champions Rhos in the opening round of the Premier Division Cup.
Both Rhos's Eryl Roberts and Leighton Edwards went close early on with Chirk falling behind on 30 minutes after a Darren Greenaway low cross was deflected off keeper Adam Griffiths, with the ball just creeping over the line to give the home side the lead. Griffiths saved several more efforts as Chirk struggled to find their rhythm in the first half. Within minutes of the restart Chirk had keeper Griffiths to thank with the youngster producing a fine triple save off Roberts, Edwards, and Greenaway from close range. Rhos added their second through Geraint Williams with Eryl Roberts scoring a third minutes later despite the protests of Chirk's Mike Hughes who picked up a booking claiming the goal was offside. Daniel Nash and Jon Paul Wood stood out for Chirk as they vainly tried to lift their team mates. Rhos player Roberts added his second goal of the match and his sides fourth as Chirk collapsed, with Geraint Williams also weighing in with another to make it 5-0. Chirk's young side were well beaten in this cup tie with Rhos adding to their humiliation by scoring their sixth five minutes from time. This is a game that Chirk will want to forget as they focus on their Premier league survival.
Next Saturday Chirk entertain Brynteg Village in a league encounter at Holyhead Road. 2.00pm KO.
