W.N.L. Premier Division
Chirk AAA 1-1 Castell Alun
Chirk fought out a 1-1 draw at Holyhead Road
against visitors Castell Alun. The game was a drab affair with chances
limited for both sides. Chirk opened the scoring on six minutes after Chris
Evans and Derek Lloyd carved out an opening in the visitors defence, for
striker Gareth Roberts to hit his thirteenth goal of the season from 10
yards out. Alun forward Wilkins wasted two good chances leading up to half
time with the forward firing wide on both occasions. Second half saw Alun
score within 10 minutes of the restart , with Wilkins latching on to a long
throw off Summerville, his low right foot shot eluding Valentine in goal to
level the score. Chirk's Darren Jones missed a glorious chance to put his
side back into the lead on 70 minutes after a Jon Paul Wood free kick saw
him unmarked, his effort passing the wrong side of the post from six yards
out. Both Summerville and Wilkins tested Valentine with long range efforts,
with the Chirk stopper having to save well from Summerville's 25 yard
strike. Both sides ran out of steam in the final third of the game, with
the visitors just shading the match in terms of possession.
Chirk's next game is away to Llangollen Town on
Tuesday evening, 6.15. pm KO. They also play Mold Alexandra at Holyhead
Road on Friday evening, 6.15. pm KO
