Welsh Trophy Round 1
Rhydymwyn 4-0 Chirk AAA
The 'Curse' of the Welsh Trophy Cup competition struck again for Chirk with them crashing out of the first round 4-0 away to Welsh Alliance side Rhydymwyn. This was Chirk's seventh first round exit in as many seasons as well as their fourth defeat in a row. The game remained goalless at half time with an under strength Chirk side holding their own against the home side. Rhydymwyn's goals all came in the last 20 minutes of play against a Chirk side that have leaked 18 goals in their last four matches.
Next Saturday Chirk are back in league action when they entertain Llay Welfare 2.30pm K.O.
Welsh National League Division Three
Chirk Reserves 1-5 Brymbo Reserves
Table toppers Chirk Reserves had a rude awakening against a unbeaten Brymbo side at Holyhead Road. Brymbo bossed things from the start with their passing and movement proving to much for the home side. Chirk were left chasing shadows in the first half with a number of defensive errors adding to their woes, although they did have an early goal disallowed for offside after Andy Perrins scored on 8 minutes from close range. Brymbo scored their first on 10 minutes after Jones wrong footed Chirk's Lloyd to square for Edwards, with him then picking out Hannaby who smashed the ball home from two yards out. Brymbo should of gone two up on 20 minutes after the unmarked Davies headed straight at keeper Adam Griffith from four yards out off a Jones corner. Chirk's forward Paul Roberts wasted a good chance on the half hour mark with his low shot just passing the post off Perrins pass. Brymbo scored their second on 38 minutes through midfielder Aaron Edwards to kill off the first half. Chirk managed to raise their game slightly after the interval although it was the visitors who went further in front with a 20 yard strike from Damion Jones on 52 minutes. The home side pulled one back through Dean Riley who scored from close range after a brief spell of Chirk pressure. Brymbo's midfielder Damion Jones popped up again on 75 minutes with the youngster unleashing a 25 yard shot which flew into the top corner to restore his sides three goal advantage. Chirk tried to respond with a late flurry of activity with 10 minutes remaining. Paul Roberts skill almost bore fruit with him dummying two defenders in the box with his resulting shot being well saved by keeper Scott Williams. Chirk's Chris Hughes also had a fierce shot saved by Williams minutes later from 15 yards out. Home defender Derek Lloyd's 30 yard free kick was goal bound only for keeper Williams again come to Brymbo's rescue to tip the ball over the bar. Brymbo dealt a sucker punch to Chirk in the final minute breaking for Aaron Edwards to pick out Shaun Edwards who scored his sides fifth goal of the afternoon.
Chirk Reserve have no fixture now for three weeks.
