Chirk AAA FC Annual
Charity Football Match in aid of Nightingale House.

On Saturday 29th
December CHIRK AAA FC held their 4th Annual Charity football Match
between two teams of ‘Over 30’s’ & ‘Under 30’s’. The match is played
over one 50 minute half for the Den Lloyd Memorial Trophy, with the
Man of the Match
Getting the Tom Ellis award. Both Den & Tom were long serving
members of the
Football club committee and all proceeds from the day went to
Nightingale House in Wrexham.
On a wind swept day the Over 30’s started the brighter and went
close with a couple of chances before Livewire forward Ian Evans
dived full length to head past Valentine only for the referee David
Durkin-Griffiths to disallow it for hand ball. With the Over 30’s
still shaking their heads the Under 30’s went close as Anthony Jones
blazed over from 15 yards. Then came the break through as Evans
easily turned Darren Jones inside out before firing a low shot into
the bottom corner past the happless Valentine.
Not to be out done the youngsters hit back on 20 minutes as Chris
Roberts fired home
Past Carl Parrish to level the scores. As the young guns began to
find their feet it was the over 30’s who struck again as veteran
Sean Parrish met Richard Newell’s cross to bundle the ball home and
give the oldies a 2-1 lead. This gave the Old boys a bit of a lift
as they peppered Valentines goal with Evans Wilson and Roberts going
close. Valentine then made a point blank wonder save from Man of the
Match Richard Newell before Mike Wilson struck from 10 yards out to
give the oldies a surprise 3-1 lead with only 15 minutes left to
play.
As the veterans started to tire, the youngsters began to pile on the
pressure and after a number of chances Paul Mitchell made it 3-2.
For the Last 10 minutes is was backs to the wall time as the
youngsters had wave after wave of attacks, then with 4 minutes left,
little Joe Roberts finally realised he had a left foot a struck a
fierce drive into the top corner of Parrish’s goal to equalize and
send the game into Penalties.
The Youngsters took the trophy for the 2nd year running and took the
series to 2-2,
Winning on penalties 4-2.
Organisers Derek Lloyd & Ian Evans would like to thank everyone who
donated prizes for the raffle including Kronospan, Cadburys (Cash
Match), First Choice and everyone at the AAA Club for their
continued support. A fantastic total of £1,252.50 was raised for
Nightingale House.
