Den Lloyd Memorial Charity Match; 30/12/06

Under 30's 4-1 Over 30's (In aid of Nightingale House Hospice.)

The third annual Charity match took place on a rainswept pitch at Holyhead Road. The Over 30's had won the two previous encounters but faced stiff opposition in the form of a confident Under 30 side. The game was to be decided on one 50 minute half. The youngsters created the early chances with both Anthony Jones and Joe Roberts going close within the first five minutes of play. Veteran defender Mike Hughes felled forward Anthony Jones inside the penalty area on 12 minutes with referee Pat Roberts having no hesitation in awarding a spot kick to the younger team. Up stepped Mike Nash whose low penalty kick narrowly passed underneath the diving body of O' 30 goalkeeper Carl Parish to give his side the lead. Both Paul Roberts and Darren Ellis both wasted chances at the other end to get their side back on level terms, with U'30 midfielder Chris Evans proving a thorn in the side of the old timers with his creative skill. Team mate Nikki Jones continued to spray effective balls from midfield into the O' 30 rearguard with brother Anthony Jones making the most of one to centre for the lurking Joe Roberts who blasted the ball into the net from five yards out on 30 minutes. The O' 30's managed to pull one back five minutes later after good link up play between Derek Lloyd and Paul Roberts, with Roberts weak shot on goal being back heeled past the hapless Valentine in goal by the jubilant O' 30 captain Ian Evans from five yards out. Parish had to pull off a point blank save to deny Jones from close range while Roberts went close at the other end. The youngsters continued to press and a tame looking shot was fumbled by O' 30 keeper Parish, with the nippy Anthony Jones managing to steer the ball home on to give his side a two goal cushion. The youngsters added another courtesy of Joe Roberts to seal their win on the 45th minute.
